Photo: Meet 11-year-old boy Whose Dream Is to Kill the President of His Country

Mohammed Afar, the resident of Aleppo area in Syria is 11 years old. The modified Kalashnikov assault rifle he carries stretches to more than half of his height. Over the top of his faded yellow jacket a Free Syrian Army (FSA) vest holds three extra clips, each full with live ammunition, and a walkie-talkie. An FSA badge sits on one side and a rendering of the Islamic Shahada, in Arabic calligraphy, on the other.

He says he does not miss school or want to stay at home with his mother and two sisters. “I want to stay as a fighter until Bashar is killed,” he says, referring to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The fighters surrounding him, all claiming to be from Liwa al-Tawhid, pass him a sniper rifle and offer to take him to a frontline, so he can demonstrate his shooting. The father of the boy, Mohammed Saleh Afar refers to his son as “ great shot” and “a little lion.” According to Mohammed “When my father goes to the frontline, he takes me with him,” says Mohammed. “He says to be careful and we find a safe place to shoot from.”Over the course of its grinding 21-month insurgency, Syria’s children have endured numerous abuses.

Peter Okoye Replies Fan Who Called Him An “Empty Head” On Twitter

P Sqaure’s Peter Okoye made a mistake while congratulating Limpopo crooner, Kcee, for joining the oil business by tweeting “Welcome on bored” instead of “Welcome on Board”. A fan had already called him “empty head” just before he corrected this error. He subsequently blocked the “fan” – much better than insulting/bickering with him/her like wizkid. #Maturitycounts

Youngest college student ever? 11-year-old child begins first semester studying quantum physics

An 11-year-old child prodigy has started his first semester in college.
Accepted when he was only 10, Carson Huey-You is attending Texas Christian University majoring in quantum physics. The youngster was co-valedictorian of his senior class and scored a 1770 on his SAT, speaks Mandarin Chinese and played the piano in the Admissions Center, according to the campus newspaper. Though impressive, Huey-You is not the youngest-ever college student.

Huey-You is so young that he could not apply online, the software would not accept an applicant born in 2002, TCU360 reported.

Genius: Carson Huey-You, 11, who is studying quantum physics at TCU

Enrolled in four classes, the whiz kid commutes to campus with his mother carrying his books as he shuttles from class to class, according to WFAA.

‘It’s not like I’m leaving him here to stay in dorms and join a fraternity,’ mother Claretta Huey-You told WFAA.

Huey-You is expected to graduate when he’s 16, a full year younger than the previous youngest-ever student at TCU, according to TCU 360. He enrolled in four classes during his first semester at TCU.

‘‘I’m taking calculus, physics, history and religion. Those are my four classes,’ Huey-You told CBS DFW.

The young genius could read by age 1, and was doing pre-algebra by age 5 – he relaxes by doing algebra, according to CBS DFW.

Professors are already singing his praises.

Big man on campus: Carson Huey-You, 11, walks with his mother, Claretta Huey-You on campus

‘He’s definitely very talented and also he’s very serious about his work and he really enjoys it. And that’s the best that a professor can hope for his students, right?’ Associate math professor Qao Zhang said to CBS DFW.

Still adjusting to college, Carson Huey-You told TCU 360 that his first week ‘was overwhelming but exciting and fun.’

Perhaps motivated by her son taking on college, Claretta Huey-You plans to return to school to study nursing, she told TCU 360. The 11-year-old’s brother is also gifted and expected to graduate high school when he is 13.

If all goes as planned, Carson Huey-You will have his college degree before he has his driver’s license. Though impressive, he isn’t the youngest-ever college student.

That distinction belongs to Michael Kearney. Kearny graduated San Mateo High School in 1990 when only six-years-old. At age 10 he had earned his bachelor’s degree in anthropology from the University of South Alabama. His master’s degree in biochemistry was awarded when he was 14-years-old. Kearney was teaching college at only 17.

Female students gives FG 7-day ultimatum to resolve ASUU strike

The National Association of Nigerian Female Students (NANFS) has given the federal government a seven-day ultimatum to resolve the ongoing strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to save the nation’s university system from total collapse.

This was contained in a statement signed by the group’s president, Comrade Funmi Farinde.

According to the group, “government is not feeling the strike because their children are in private universities. Government should bear in mind that we are the future of this great nation,” adding that “an idle mind is the devil’s workshop.

“We, Nigerian female students, therefore call on the federal government to set in motion all the mechanism necessary for meeting the funding requirement of the FGN/ASUU agreement of 2009.

“We are giving the federal government a 7 day ultimatum to resolve the conflict with ASUU quickly to save the university system from collapsing,” the statement read.

The group also advised the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) to concentrate on its primary role of regulating the standard of university education in the country, rather than managing scholarship funds and awarding contracts.

“He’s the player who knows my moves in front of goal best” – Ronaldo angry over Ozil’s exit

Cristiano Ronaldo has declared his anger at Mesut Ozil’s departure to Arsenal.

Germany playmaker Ozil was a deadline-day record signing for the Gunners at £42.5million, with Ronaldo becoming the latest Real Madrid star to express his frustration at the move.

According to Spanish paper AS, Ronaldo has told Portugal team-mates his views on Ozil’s switch, which came hours after confirmation of Real’s world-record £86million signing of Tottenham’s Gareth Bale.

‘The sale of Ozil is very bad news for me,’ he said.

‘He was the player who best knew my moves in front of goal… I’m angry about Özil leaving.’

Real claim the move to Arsenal is a result of Ozil wanting to leave, but he had been told to go because the club need to pay loans taken out to bring in Bale, costing £100m-plus in repayments.

Bale will not be able to offer Ozil’s ability to find Ronaldo with a pass anywhere on the pitch, as the Portugal star alluded to.

Ronaldo’s words come after a host of other top Real players spoke out on their team-mate’s departure for London.

iPhone 6, here we come: Apple's September event is official

Hold on to your hats: just as we expected, Apple’s gone and officially made 10 September as the date for its next big event, where we expect to see the unveiling of the next iPhone, and the company’s hoping to ‘brighten everyone’s day’ with what’s on show. Are you ready for Apple’s next big thing?

Apple has sent out brightly coloured invitations asking journalists to attend an event at Apple’s Cupertino HQ in California, where the company is expected to reveal the all-new iPhone – while the assortment of bright hues on the invite match up with leaks of the rumoured budget iPhone 5C, which we could also be seeing revealed on stage at the same time.

Along with the new iPhones, we’re expecting to see the public launch of the overhauled iOS 7, which has been in the hands of many beta testers since it was announced back in June. Unusually, Apple has also confirmed an event will be taking place in Shanghai, China the next day which could also signal the launch of the plastic-backed cheaper iPhone in the East.

Will we be seeing the iPhone 5C in the UK as well? We’ll find out soon: the whole event kicks off at 6pm our time, and we know you can’t wait to see what Apple has in store, and we can’t either – we’ll be bringing you the latest news as it happens right on the day.

Ozil’s Real Madrid team-mates unhappy after club sells him to Arsenal

As Arsenal fans continue to celebrate their record signing of Mesut Ozil, his former Real Madrid team-mates are not happy that the club decided to sell him.

Defender and vice-captain Sergio Ramos, said: “I am very unhappy after the exit of Ozil. For me, he was a friend and a companion. Mesut is a special footballer who generates and plays the beautiful side of the game.

“If it was up to me then he would never have left. But it was the choice of the club. But I am totally convinced he will be a star at Arsenal.

“He is the king of the assist. I know Santi Cazorla well and together they will be an enormous spectacle. But I will miss him.”

Former Liverpool defender Alvaro Arbeloa said: “I am a bit surprised, it’s a shame and a big loss in the dressing room, for the human and footballing aspects.

“He said goodbye last weekend, but I thought it was a practical joke. He is different, there is nobody like him in the world. He makes the difference.

“The club have their reasons. But we look forward, we have great players. For the fans it will be hard, they were close to him. He is a phenomenon, everyone took to him very well. It is a transfer that is very hard.”

Madrid accepted the Gunners’ £42m offer for the German, after they finally landed Gareth Bale for £86m.

CHEAPEST WEDDING: Couple Spent One British Pound On Wedding Ceremony (Photos)

Sept 4, 2013 – Couple Spent One British Pound On Wedding Ceremony (Pictures)

A thrifty bride and groom have proved a wedding day to remember does not need to cost a fortune after celebrating their nuptials – at the cost of just £1.

Georgina Porteous and Sid Innes organised their perfect day for family and friends, complete with rings, flowers, a cake and even a photographer to capture the occasion.
They also hosted a reception with a picnic, drinks, jazz music and dancing at a romantic setting in the Scottish Highlands, all on their unbelievably low budget.

But incredibly, apart from the £70 they had to pay by law for their marriage fees, their only expenditure was a pound on Georgina’s vintage wedding gown.

The newlyweds were toasting their good fortune today after spending only a tiny fraction of the average £20,000 cost of a wedding in the UK.

Georgina, 36, said: ‘I don’t see the point in these massive weddings. It takes away from what marriage is truly about.

The only expense the couple could not avoid was the statutory £70 for the fees required to marry, but everything else was donated or sourced for free

The couple exchanged wedding rings hand-crafted by Georgina using antlers she found in their garden

‘There is nothing to gain from spending a huge amount of money. The day is supposed to be about marrying the person you love and for us all that mattered was that we were becoming husband and wife. We didn’t want or need a big, fancy affair.’

Georgina, an artist, met singer-songwriter Sid, 39, at an art fair in Glasgow in 2009 and immediately said ‘yes’ when he proposed in Berlin last year.

The couple, who live near Inverness, started planning their big day but as they are both dedicated to recycling and self-sufficiency, they vowed to keep their nuptials as simple as possible.

The only expense they could not avoid was the statutory £70 for the fees required to marry, but everything else was donated or sourced for free.

Georgina said: ‘From day one of the engagement we knew we wanted a small and cheap wedding, it was a natural thing for us because we are so invested in recycling and self-sustainability. We were really excited to plan it all.

Georgina’s aunt had baked a three-tier chocolate orange wedding cake infused with Lady Grey tea, with the couple’s initials intertwined on top for decoration

An official wedding photographer was on hand to capture the occasion after Georgina, also a freelance film editor, offered to work for him in return.

Each guest had been asked to bring food and drink, so they tucked into home-made quiches, sausage rolls, boiled potatoes, fresh bread and salad.

Georgina’s aunt had baked a three-tier chocolate orange wedding cake infused with Lady Grey tea, with the couple’s initials intertwined on top for decoration.

After the wedding picnic, everyone partied the night away, as Georgina’s talented father, Harry, played some 1940s jazz on his saxophone.

Georgina added: ‘We had so much fun and it was exciting to see what dish everyone had brought.

‘We all sat around after the ceremony and had a little picnic, it was great and all the food was gone by the end so we didn’t waste any of it.

‘There was quite a relaxed atmosphere and everyone was chatting to one another, and then when it got later everyone was enjoying the music and joining in with all the dances.
‘We had a ball. The day went beautifully. It was really family-focused and emotional. Lots of people said it was the best wedding they have ever been to.’

But despite spending so little on their wedding, the couple intend to be more extravagant on their honeymoon as they will be spending a month in Berlin.

Georgina said: ‘Although we spent a small amount, we do plan to spend a little more on our honeymoon.

‘We are going back to Berlin, where we got engaged. We love it and we have friends living there, so we will still be able to save some money.’

Wonders shall never end in this world o.

Mother Arrested For Dumping Baby In Cemetery In Jigawa State (photo of baby)

A 25-year-old woman has been nabbed in Jigawa state for allegedly dumping her newborn baby at a cemetery.

The woman, who was arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, is said to have dumped her newborn baby (pictured above) in a cemetery in Kazaure Local Government of the state.

Muhammad Gidado, the NSCDC commandant in the state yesterday disclosed that the suspect was nabbed on Friday at Ilallah quarters in Kazaure town.

According to him, the woman, who was a housemaid in the area, was arrested following a tip-off by divorcees, widows, housemaids and prostitutes residing in the area.

“We were able to identify and arrest the mother of the baby girl that was abandoned at the graveyard after conducting a thorough investigation among divorcees, widows, housemaids and prostitutes living in the area,” Gidado said.

He further disclosed that a medical examination at the General Hospital, Hadejia had revealed that the suspect was the biological mother of the abandoned baby.

“She also confessed to being the mother, as well as dumping the baby”, he said.

Gidado said the suspect had alleged that she was impregnated by one Alhaji Haruna of Makara-Huta quarters in the same town.

Apparently unable to cater for the newborn baby, she decided to dump her in the cemetery.

The baby was discovered and rescued by men of the NSCDC while on patrol in the area on August 27.

Abortion Saga - Rochas Okorocha Bows

Governor Rochas Okorocha Tuesdday, bowed to he superior fire power of the fiery Catholic Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province, His Grace, Dr. Anthony J. V. Obinna, over the obnoxious abortion law.

The Governor, who retraced his locus when he addressed members of the State House of Assembly, appealed to he lawmakers to immediately commence the processes of expunging the offending sections of the obnoxious law.

"I have always loved children. I fell for this law as soon as I saw the safeguards it contained for the protection of our women", Okorocha explained.

According to the Governor, a law is as good as the acceptability by the people for which it was made and used the opportunity to appeal to the lawmakers to repeal the offending sections of the law.

"I make this appeal because my political opponents are waiting patiently for the outcome of this unfortunate abortion saga. It is no worth the trouble to keep this law longer than necessary", Okorocha said.

It was his considered opinion that the law unfortunately touched on the sensibility of church leaders, who he claimed, remained the pillars of his administration.

Before anchoring his speech on the abortion law, the Governor had earlier given a rundown of what he termed "the successes of my administration in the past two years and half".

While saying at government had already released N5 billion to the contracting firm handling the Akachi Towers, Okorocha however expressed regret that te project had suffered some setback.

"Over 350 kilometers of rural roads have been tarred. All projects started by this administration will be completed within the tenure of this administration", Okorocha promised.

Responding, the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Donates Ozoemena, who also superintended over the day's sitting, said the House was roundly misunderstood by the citizenry.

"We had the noblest of intention when we passed the Bill. It went through the processes of law making. We promise to repeal this law to conform to the wishes of Imo people", Ozoemena said.

Vanguard recalls that this vexatious law was signed by Okorocha since May 29, 2012, and remained silent until Dr. Phillip Njemanze drew the attention of Archbishop Obinna to it.

Addressing journalists last Friday, Archbishop Obinna not only demanded that the offending abortion law must be repealed but had also held a meeting with his priests to strategize on how to battle the anti-life legislation.
