NSA leaker Edward Snowden gets tech support job for large Moscow website and starts tomorrow

NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden is taking a job at a large Moscow website and starts work tomorrow.
The 30-year-old American fugitive's new role is surrounded by secrecy for 'security reasons', it was claimed.

But his lawyer has denied that Snowden will be a state employee.
The former National Security Agency contractor is behind a series of major intelligence links on US and British snooping of telephones and the internet.

New job: NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden will start working for a large website in Moscow tomorrow

His Russian lawyer Anatoly Kucherena, who denied the post was as a state employee, said: 'Edward starts work in November.'
'He will provide support for a large Russian site,' he said, refusing to name the new employer or give details of his role.

Snowden fled to Russia in June, hearing arrest and extradition to the US where he faces espionage charges.
President Vladimir Putin has rejected American pleas to send Snowden home to face charges including espionage, and the temporary asylum he was granted in early August can be extended annually.

The Russians imply there is a risk he could be kidnapped or assassinated by the CIA.
Western sources say the fact he is being concealed in Russia shows he is under the control of the Moscow secret services.

Not working for the Russians: Snowden, who was granted asylum in Russia after going on the run from the US, is not taking up a state job according to his lawyer

PHOTOS: check out the african tribe that drink mixture of blood and milk!! [shocking **]

INTERESTING TO SOME......make me wanna puke!!
  • The tribe where big is definitely beautiful: Ethiopian men compete to be the fattest in the village by drinking a gruesome mixture of blood and milk while living in isolation for SIX months
  • Men from the Bodi tribe compete to become the fattest during the new year or Ka'el ceremony
  • They spend six months guzzling a mixture of blood and milk in a bid to fatten up as fast as they can
  • The winning fat man doesn't get a prize but is feted as a hero for life by the rest of the tribe
  • Bodi want to retain their traditions but they are threatened by government resettlement plans
Slim might be in elsewhere but for Ethiopia's Bodi or Me'en people, bigger is always better. The tribe, which lives in a remote corner of Ethiopia's Omo Valley, is home to an unusual ritual which sees young men gorge on cow's blood and milk in a bid to be crowned the fattest man.

Six months after starting the regime, the men emerge to show off their newly engorged physiques and for a winner to be chosen. The champion fat man is then feted as a hero for the rest of his life.

Hero: Every child wants to become one of the fat men, according to Lafforgue, who are feted as heroes by the rest of the tribe for their incredible feat

Competition: On the day of the Ka'el ceremony, the tribe's fat men walk for hours around a sacred tree, watched by other men and helped out by the women

Challenge: The feat begins six months before the Ka'el ceremony when participants retire to their huts where they stay, while the women bring them food

Too much! A Bodi man finds that his morning bowl of blood and milk is a little too much and is ill outside his hut - watched by a baffled-looking herd of cows

Regime: Each competitor is nominated by his family who then spend the next six months helping him to fatten up on a diet of cow's blood and milk

Sadly, the Ka'el ritual and the Bodi's traditional way of life is under threat from the Ethiopian government who plan to resettle 300,000 people from all over the country on their lands.

For now, the tribe continue as they always have, and still celebrate Ka'el in traditional style each June.

UK: First Televised Court Hearing Makes History

The first televised hearing from an English court has been broadcast

Court of Appeal judges have rejected a request to reduce a prison sentence in the first televised English court proceedings.

Convicted counterfeiter Kevin Fisher – the ringleader of a three-man gang that created hundreds of thousands of fake £1 coins – had applied for leave to appeal against his sentence of seven years.

His legal counsel was Alexander Cameron QC, brother of Prime Minister David Cameron, who made a number of legal points in favour of reducing the length of the sentence.

However Lord Justice Pitchford rejected the request.

The broadcast itself was a moment of legal and broadcasting history, as Sky News’ cameras filmed inside the Royal Courts of Justice for the first time.
Alexander Cameron QC, brother of the Prime Minister

Cameras have been banned from courts in England and Wales since 1925.

The rules in Scottish courts are different and earlier this year cameras were allowed to film a murder trial – but only with the permission of all the participants, including the defendant.

Sky News and other broadcasters have been campaigning for a decade for cameras to be allowed to show all trials.

After prolonged negotiations, the Government and the judiciary have agreed to allow cameras inside certain courtrooms.

Sky News correspondent Ian Woods said: “It wasn’t the significance of the case which was of interest, it was the novelty factor of being able to broadcast live.

“However, in the days and months ahead there will be high profile cases which are dealt with at the court of appeal which are on far more newsworthy cases which we will broadcast live and I hope that it offers some insight into the way the judicial system works.”

Legal commentator Joshua Rozenberg said: “It was a fascinating glimpse for everybody of what we can see just by going into the Royal Courts of Justice.”

He added that the defendant – who was not in court – may have first heard the news that his appeal had been rejected by watching Sky News.

NIGERIA: Federal Government set to reduce cost of internet accessibility in Nigerians — Minister.

The Federal Government is making conscious efforts to reduce the cost of internet accessibility for Nigerians and to boost access across the federation.

Ms Omobola Johnson, Communications Minister

The Minister of Communication, Ms Mobolaji Johnson stated this on Wednesday in Abuja when she visited the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) to present the score card of her ministry.

The minister blamed the high cost of internet accessibility in Nigeria on high demand, which she noted has exceeded supply.

She, however, said that efforts were being put in place to reduce the cost.
“ If demand exceeds supply, it makes it very expensive and what we are trying to do is to increase the supply to match the demand. This will certainly bring down the price.
“This can be related to SMS which use to cost N10.00 per SMS at the inception of GSM service in the country, but today it costs only N4.00.

“This is because of the increased competition among the operators,’’ she said.
Meanwhile, the minister has decried the slow pace of importation of software into the country.
“Software importation into the country has really not moved much because we are just starting and it will take some time before it is developed,’’ she said.

She, therefore, called for more participation of local companies in software importation to increase supply.

Mobolaji further said that the ministry was presently subsidising the cost of roll out of infrastructure to rural areas to make it commercially viable to prospective global network investors in rural communities.

She said that efforts were being made to get the rural population to benefit from financial services, adding that NIPOST was being used to achieve this objective.

She further said that the ministry had created a National Research Education Network to connect universities in the country to university communities across the world.
“So far, we have connected 27 universities in the country to this network, particularly those universities that have medical colleges,” the minister said.

According to her, the first phase of the project is being funded by the Step-B project of the World Bank, which is expected to commit about 10 million dollars.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Step-B project is a Federal Government initiative with support from the World Bank for Nigerian Post-Basic Education and Research Sub-sector.
It is aimed at producing more and better qualified science and technology graduates, higher quality and more relevant research.

The minister said that contrary to speculations, the ministry was not phasing out fixed lines, explaining that demand was more on mobile telephoning and mobile line.
