Moses helps Chelsea nail Inter in friendly tournament -

Chelsea passed their toughest test since Jose Mourinho returned as manager, posting a 2-0 friendly win Thursday over Inter Milan, the team Mourhinho guided to the 2010 Champions League crown.
Mourinho, who managed Chelsea from 2004-07, returned to Chelsea in June after managing Spain’s Real Madrid the past two seasons.

The event, which also features Everton, Juventus, Real Madrid, Valencia and the Los Angeles Galaxy, concludes in Miami on August 7.
Chelsea had comfortably won all three of their matches in a tour of Asia before arriving Stateside, but it was Inter who had the first real chance on Thursday when Fredy Guarin unleashed a volley on goal after 10 minutes only to see it sail just wide of the post.
However, the crowd of 41,983 at Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts, didn’t have to wait long for the first goal.
Chelsea took the lead in the 12th minute as Nigeria’s Victor Moses broke through to the edge of the penalty area and passed to Oscar, who curled a superb shot past Samir Handanovic and into the upper corner of the net.
Rodrigo Palacio tried to level things with a long-range shot deflected off John Terry, forcing Petr Cech to make a one-handed grab.
However, Inter would get no closer the rest of the night.
Chelsea doubled their advantage in controversial circumstances in the 28th minute. Moses was brought down on the edge of the area and a penalty was awarded despite the protests of Inter players — whose claim he was outside the box appeared to be justified by video replays.
Nevertheless, Belgian winger Hazard calmly took his shot, sending Handanovic the wrong way to notch his second penalty in as many matches.
Inter were clearly frustrated, and Hugo Campagnaro was sent off for a nasty stamp on Terry at the hour mark.
“The red card changed (the match) completely,” Mourinho said. “Not good for them because they played with 10, and not good for us, because we played against 10.”
Inter will now face Valencia in the tournament’s consolation bracket on Sunday

ZONKEY: donkey mother and zebra father combine together

PHOTO: Ippo the zonkey, a zebra-donkey hybrid was born, July 2013 at a Florence reserve in Italy.
One part zebra, one part donkey, all parts fuzzy and adorable. Ippo, the foal of a male zebra and a female donkey, was reported to be in good health, just a few days after it was born at an animal reserve in Florence, Italy.
The story of Ippo's birth reads like the equine equivalent of a romance novel. The father is a zebra that was adopted by the animal reserve after he was rescued from a failing zoo. The mother is a Donkey of Amiata, an endangered animal species.
Even though a fence separated the two animals at the animal reserve, the zebra climbed over and mated with the donkey, producing Ippo. Serena Aglietti, one of the employees at the reserve, said in a statement, "Ippo is the only one of her kind in Italy."

Girl, 12, Contracts Brain-Eating Amoeba During Swim (video embedded)

Now, to the little girl who is fighting for her life after swimming in the lake. The 12-year-old from arkansas contracted a deadly disease in the water. And abc's ryan owens has all those details for us.
Reporter: This perfectly healthy 12-year-old went for a summer swim. This morning, she's in the intensive care unit of an arkansas hospital, with a disease that kills 99% of people who contract it. Kaley got violently ill days after playing at this water park in a lake near little rock.
Doctors diagnosed her with a rare meningitis caused by a parasi parasite. An amoeba that thrives in stagnant water. There's been 50 case of this disease reported in the last 10 years in the united states.
But kaley is the second believed to be from this one lake. Three years ago, this 7-year-old boy died after swimming her. The owners have shut it down for the summer and maybe forever.
It's hard for us to even think about the possibility of a child getting sick out here. Reporter: Scientists say only two americans have ever survived exposure to this amoeba. Her mom is praying kaley will be the third.
We're hoping for kali to be number three. Reporter: Her mother is hoping to raise awareness. There's only one way to get this disease, to ingest contaminated water through the nose

A Christian leader says he carried three bodies from this week's multiple blasts in the northern Nigerian city of Kano to a military hospital, raising the toll to at least 27 dead.
Tobias Itika of the Christian group Ohaeneze said Friday the three were not counted in a toll from two other hospitals. He said other victims were treated at an orthopedic hospital but he did not have an exact figure. Two other hospitals reported treating 20 wounded.
Nigeria's military said Islamic extremists Monday night planted multiple bombs around a Kano bar thronged with people.

Facebook brings Cover Feed to Android app, makes Facebook Home seem even more pointless

Facebook has released a new update for their Android app, which brings one of the key features of the ill-fated Facebook Home app. Now, through an option in the settings menu, you can enable the Cover Feed feature on your Android device, without having to install Facebook Home app.
If you are not aware, Cover Feed takes over the lockscreen on your Android device with a custom lockscreen that plays a slideshow of your friends’ Facebook photos in the background underneath the unlock button. While it sounds great in theory, actually having all your friends’ photos appear on your lockscreen isn’t such a great idea as most of the time the photos aren’t as good as you’d like them to be (not with my friends, at least).
Cover Feed, along with Chat Heads, was one of the key features of Facebook Home. Now, you can have both without actually installing that app (Chat Heads are available through the Facebook Messenger app). This means now you have even fewer reasons to install Facebook Home, and there weren’t many to begin with.
There is a catch, however. Just like the Facebook Home app, the Cover Feed feature only works on select Android devices as of now. The list currently includes Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy S III,Samsung Galaxy Note II, Nexus 4, HTC One X, HTC One X+ and HTC One. More devices should be added in future.

BioBeats: Making music with your pulse

Startup BioBeats plans to join biometrics with entertaining apps to create tools that help you stay healthy -- and that collect troves of data that medical researchers can use.

photo: Pulse, designed by BioBeats, gives users an approximation of their heartbeat using the iPhone camera.

In the vision of BioBeats CEO Nadeem Kassam, medical research shouldn't be restricted to a lab. Rather, it should be something that takes place in real time around the world, using readily available technology like smartphones -- and that gets participants involved through entertainment.
That's one of the ideas behind this self-described "big-data mobile-health company," which announced a $650,000 funding round Thursday, with investors as diverse as rapper-turned-film-star Will Smith and mobile software firm Eniac Ventures.
The company's overall concept is a bit complicated, but here's a chunk of it. With a smartphone app called Pulse, developed by BioBeats, users can take an approximate measure of their heartbeat in real time and broadcast it to the company.

Harvard scientists: Control a rat with your brain

We're not quite at the stage where we can communicate brain to brain with our fellow humans, but we may be on our way to communicating with other species. Or at least controlling them, thanks to a new, non-invasive interface developed by scientists at Harvard Medical School.
A team led by Seung-Schik Yoo, an assistant professor of radiology, has created a brain-to-brain interface (BBI) that allows a human controller to move a portion of a rat's body just by thinking about it, all without invasive surgical implants.

The good: The BMW Z4 sDrive35is' turbocharged engine surges with power and sounds fantastic. The seven-speed DCT shifts with inhuman quickness. BMW's full array of iDrive technology is available.
The bad: With the top down, there's remarkably little trunk space. The base price is higher than a Porsche Boxster S'.
The bottom line: The 2013 BMW Z4 sDrive35is is an expensive toy with great power and tech, but at this price we'd recommend that driving enthusiasts choose the Porsche Boxste

Power-retractable hardtop
The Z4's power-retractable hardtop hides away and returns in about 20 seconds at the touch of a button. Sources say that the roadster needs to be stopped to activate the roof, but I was able to drop the top with the vehicle moving at parking-lot speeds.
The power hardtop retracts in about 20 seconds.
