LMAO!! Registrar of College forges a letter to sack the provost

(photo) FORGERY

Police detectives have arrested the registrar of the Federal College of Veterinary and Medical Laboratory Technology, Mohammed Ambursa, for allegedly forging a letter relieving his boss, the Provost of FCVMT, Dr. George-Best Echeonwu, of his post.

Also arrested was a staff of the college and a contender to the post, Dr. Amen-Eleyi Joseph, who was asked to take over from Echeonwu.Incidentally both Echeonwu and Okwori had been interviewed for the job since 2011 and Echeonwu was appointed by the supervising Ministry of Agriculture as the provost.

He has however been in acting capacity since then without confirmation.

Police from the IG Monitoring team in Abuja were said to have stormed FCVMLT, Vom near Jos and arrested Ambursa and Okwori on Monday and whisked them to Abuja for questioning.

Ambusra was said to have gone to Abuja and obtained a photocopy of the alleged forged letter, which he handed to the provost asking him to hand over to Okwori but failed to bring the original of the letter.

The Police were said to be quizzing some top officials of the Presidency involved in the forgery as well as some members of the governing board of the college to determine their level of involvement in the alleged forgery.

3 children emerge winners of 2013 Indomie Independence Day Awards (IIDA)

In fulfillment of its renowned Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative towards children, Dufil Prima Foods Plc, makers of Indomie Instant Noodles has unveiled three lucky winners for this year’s Indomie Independence Day Awards (IIDA) and rewarded them with cash prizes worth N2.25 million.

Mr Haresh Aswani, Chairman, Dufil Prima Foods during the presentation of the awards in Lagos said it was targeted at identifying and rewarding children whose heroic acts touched lives but were often ignored due to their age.

“This event is significant because it is rooted in the recognition of those whose best efforts are very often overlooked by the society. On a daily basis, our beloved Nigerian children perform thousands of heroic acts at great personal risk to themselves. In 2008, we decided to take up the challenge by not only recognising these young heroes, but also providing them scholarship opportunities since their actions have touched lives in their immediate communities and beyond,” he noted.

For Divine Toruemi, Mohammed Kenubu and David Adekunle who placed first, second and third respectively, the awards could not have come at a better time since they never knew their acts of bravery would someday be rewarded. They were picked by a distinguished panel of judges from an initial shortlist comprising 14 children for this year’s edition of the event. Toruemi who resides in Port Harcourt rescued a drowning boy; while Kenubu from Kano helped find a missing baby and Adekunle, a Minna-based 8-year-old, got robbers arrested through his ingenuity. They got N1 million, N750,000 and N500,000 respectively for their heroism.

Google offers affordable laptop

Google is introducing a $279 laptop that runs its Internet-centric Chrome operating system, borrowing many of the high-end features found in models that cost $1,000 or more.

Hewlett-Packard Co. makes the new HP Chromebook 11. Although its price is in line with most other Chrome OS notebooks, the new model sports many design features found in pricier devices, including the $1,299 Chromebook Pixel.

Unlike Windows and Mac laptops, Chromebooks rely heavily on continuous Internet connections to run Gmail, Google Docs and other online services. Many apps don't run directly on the device but over the Internet. The devices also have relatively little storage, as documents, photos and other files are supposed to be stored online.

Google promotes Chromebooks as affordable laptops for a wide range of people, including schoolchildren and merchants who can use Google's tools on the Internet without the extra expense and hassle of installing more sophisticated software such as Adobe's Photoshop photo-editing software or Microsoft's Office word processing and spreadsheet package.

The Chromebook 11 has a sleek, plastic frame with no sharp edges or corners --or even screw holes. The speakers are tucked under the keyboard so sound comes out toward the user, even when the laptop is on the user's lap.

The new laptop's display measures 11.6 inches diagonally, the same as a popular Chromebook model from Samsung Electronics Co. The Chromebook 11 weighs slightly less, at 2.3 pounds, compared with 2.4 pounds for the Samsung model.

The Chromebook 11 is available starting Tuesday. The laptop comes in white or black.

FLOOD CLAIMS STUDENT IN ENUGU

A 13-year-old student of a private school in Abakpa Nike, Enugu State drowned in a flood that followed a rainfall yesterday.

A witness who preferred anonymity said the girl fell into the gutter while dodging a speeding commercial bus which splashed water as it moved.
Mr Ejike Okpara, who was also at the scene on Nike Road, told newsmen that a pupil was earlier saved by bystanders after she also fell into the gutter.
Okpara said the little girl from St Theresa Primary School, Abakpa fell into the gutter near her school around 7.30 a.m. but was saved by passersby.
The witness, however, said the second girl, a JS II student of Modern Ideal College (MIC), was unlucky as she drowned in the flood.
He said efforts by youths in the area to rescue her failed as the flood overpowered them and moved her into the nearby Ekulu River.
Members of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) who waded through the river to search for the girl could not recover her body.
One of them, Mr Ikechukwu Ani, said they searched through a distance of about five kilometres on the river bank but could not find her body.
Owner of the school, Mrs Florence Ani, expressed shock at the incident which she said was the first of its kind.
Ani said the school was doing everything possible to recover the student who was identified as Onyinye Akabuko.
She said the parents of the girl were also making efforts to find their daughter.
The incident is the second in the state capital within one month, it was gathered. Coordinator of the Enugu State Emergency Management Agency, Mr Joe Offor, declined to pick his calls when newsmen attempted to get his reaction. (NAN)
