A RIDE TO SPACE FOR JUST $75,000....isn't it cheap??

Paragon Wants to Float Tourists to the Edge of Space for $75,000

A new initiative by Paragon Space Development wants to balloon you and seven wealthy friends 100,000 feet above Earth—all you need is $75,000. The project, fittingly called World View, plans to float paying customers to the edges of space, and then keep them there for two hours while they simply admire the view. Up there, far above real human problems, you can see the curvature of the Earth, said Paragon co-founder Jan Poynter. At that altitude, the sky is “completely black,” not unlike seeing the sky at night from the ground.

The journey itself is estimated to last around four hours, from ascension to landing, and use a giant helium balloon to float space tourists up closer to the sun; the method is similar to Felix Baumgartner’s record-breaking Stratos free fall last year. After the passenger’s allotted viewing time is up, the capsule would be disconnected from the balloon, and use a parafoil to safely return to Earth.

According to Paragon, the space flight will supposedly result in a “truly transformative human experience,” while undercutting the competition like Virgin Galactic, which charges $250,000 for a seat on its SpaceshipTwo craft. While the boundary of space technically doesn’t begin until about 62 miles above Earth, called the Karman Line, Paragon defines its World View project as a “spacecraft,” as does the FAA. Virgin’s initiative, it must be noted, will go beyond the Karman Line, so that extra dough gets you plenty more mileage.

While Paragon’s World View project is aimed squarely at capitalizing on the growing space tourism industry, Poynter did say it will also use its technology for scientific purposes. If you can’t quite muster the $250,000 for Virgin’s project, perhaps you can take advantage of Paragon’s “comparably affordable price.” All that to float 100,000 feet in the air for a few hours.

Fart Filtering Underwear Said To Neutralize Stink Of Passing Gas

Since word about the odor-neutralizing Shreddies passed through the Internet a few days ago, the company has experienced a 400 percent increase in orders over all, Betts-Clarke estimated.

Shreddies weaves a carbon cloth called Zorflex into its rear panel. Betts-Clarke says it can squash the smell of "200 times the average flatulence emission."
In 2008, the company began to serve customers with digestive-tract woes but branched out. "It's a product for everybody, because everyone farts," Betts-Clarke explained.

Men's boxer briefs cost between $39 and $45, while women's panties are about $31 to $34.

A product called the Flat-D Flatulence Deodorizer is also on the market. It's an activated charcoal cloth pad that tapes to the inside of briefs to mask the stink.

//Imagine your silent but deadly farts now just silent.// [DOWNLOAD VIDEO...password: veecubed]

This pair of Shreddies for women costs about $31.

ASUU Gets Open Cheque

Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal

The House of Representatives has brought a new dimension to the protracted strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal gave the union a blank cheque when he indicated that the National Assembly was disposed to approving extra- budgetary expenses for the Federal Government if that would break the stalemate in the trade dispute.
But there is nothing much to cheer about in this offer because it is highly hypothetical.
It is however encouraging that there are still people in government who still want to give ASUU another opportunity to exit this dark stage.
Tambuwal may mean well in his mediation but should know that the matter has gone beyond printing more money and throwing them at problems. Let reason prevail above any other thing in breaking this deadlock.

Engineers set to TURN BACK THE HANDS OF TIME!! (amazing)

Engineers will travel from St Paul's Cathedral to Newcastle Cathedral as part of their task to change 80 clocks across England and Wales.
With the clocks going back this weekend most people will be looking forward to an extra hour in bed.
But a team of specialist engineers, from Derby, will be working flat out to turn back time on 80 clocks across England and Wales.

Specialist clockmakers Smith of Derby will be changing the times of clocks on famous landmarks, including St Paul's Cathedral in London.

A total of 18 field engineers were beginning the mammoth task on Sunday morning and are expected to finish on Wednesday.
The majority of the time pieces are public or church clocks, including those on Newcastle Cathedral and on Nottingham's Victoria Shopping Centre.

Bob Betts, the firm's managing director, said the team can get the job done relatively quickly.

He said: "It is difficult to do it [turn back clocks] at a predetermined time and all at the same time, so we work very closely with the town halls and the parish councils to find out when is best to do it for them and get everyone alerted to that.

Leicester Square's musical clock features 27 bells

'I'm sure there'll be people saying: 'Is that the right time or is that the wrong time?' But we get there."

He said some of the clocks were hard to get to.

"The nature of a public clock is that it's usually in a tower, so our guys will have to climb up those 150 or so steps.

25 Highest Paying Companies for Software Engineers

Competition for software engineers continues to accelerate, with salaries being an area employers compete aggressively on to win talent.

This week Glassdoor published the study, 25 Highest Paying Companies for Software Engineers 2013. Juniper Networks JNPR +0.59% leads all 25 companies tracked in the study with an average base salary of $159,990, followed byLinkedIn LNKD -1.06%, who offers an average base salary of $136,427. Yahoo YHOO -2.45%’s average base salary for software engineers is $130,312 and Google GOOG -1% averages $127,143. Twitter’s average base salary for software engineers is $124,883. The following infographic shows the top 25 companies and average base salaries.

The Glassdoor report includes an analysis of employers hiring across 20 of the largest U.S. cities. The San Francisco Bay area has the highest average annual base salary of $111,885 followed by Seattle at $103,196 and San Diego at $93,993. Glassdoor’s research indicates that there are 15,732 employers across the U.S. hiring software engineers today, with 3,846 of these companies located in the San Francisco Bay area, followed by New York City with 2,264 companies and the Washington D.C. area with 2,139 companies. The following graphic shows software engineering and hiring by region.

It’s important to look at the total compensation package to keep salaries in context. I’ve known of software engineers taking a cut in pay but more than making up for the 8% to 10% drop with accelerated stock options, equity in a start-up, greater flexibility and chances for advancement.

Getting into a culture you can excel in is equally important. To provide a different glimpse of the top 25 highest paying companies for software engineers, the group is ranked by the percentage (%) of employees who would recommend their company to a friend and the percent who approve of their CEO as of today (October 20, 2013). The results show companies who not only provide excellent salaries, they have great cultures as well. Facebook (93%), LinkedIn (90%) and Google (90%) are the top three-rated by employees working there today.

A 9,000-Pound Tank That’s Faster Than a Ferrari

After drones took over the skies, Ripsaw is now taking control over land. Ripsaw is the world’s fastest tracked vehicle produced by Howe & Howe Technologies in Maine. Unlike other unmanned ground vehicles (UGV), which are slow, Ripsaw can accelerate to 65 mph in about 3 seconds. By comparison, the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta can accelerate to 62 mph in 3.1 seconds.

This revolutionary tracked vehicle can take significant combat damage as it has Alloy Steel Tubing in its hull that provides it structural strength and reliability. This fastest tank weighs about 9,000 pounds and can carry about 2,000 pounds of payload. In addition to this, Ripsaw provides full situation awareness to the operator as it uses multiple cameras to gain continuous, 360-degree coverage.

MS1 unmanned ground vehicles and the MS2 manned models are the two variants of Ripsaw. MS2 is bigger, faster and more modular than the MS1. A fully-equipped version of MS2 will cost around $750,000 while MS1 without personnel cockpits may only cost $200,000.

MS2 can be easily controlled remotely or operated by a driver and a crewman. When damaged by a mine blast or IEDs, it could be cannibalized in the field and can be assembled into a fully-capable vehicle overnight.

Ripsaw, made from tough alloy steel, is very quick and agile and could be used for perimeter defense, surveillance, rescue, border patrol, crowd control and explosive ordnance disposal roles.

LMAO!! ugliest man wins award {award for being ugly???}

Zimbabwe's Mr Ugly 2012, William Masvinu liked the title so much, he decided to give the competition another go this year and once again, Masvinu walked away with the title of the ugliest man in Harare Zimbabwe on Friday night at the City Sports Bar.
The competition which pits a group of 'aesthetically challenged' men against each other in a contest to win the title of 'Mr Ugly Harare' was first held in 2011 and although it received a lot of criticism at the time it has since gained more popularity.
This year the participants were reportedly rewarded with overalls, safety shoes and rain coat.
The first runner up, Benny Chakanyuka also received US$100 (N16,000) while the second runner up Funny Musekiwa walked away with US$50 (N8000) and groceries.

Along with the crown and prize money, the grand prize winner also won a year's school fees for one of his children, a prize his wife was very happy about.
Speaking to Allafrica.com about the preparation process he went for the contests, Masvinu said no preparation was needed because it all came naturally for him.

"My ugliness comes naturally to me and although I did a bit to prepare for the show, I let them do the rest," he was quoted saying.
"A bit of choreography together with his funny clothing helped him on stage but it was all minimum effort," his manager, Michael Gundo, said.

ASUU strike Update: Reps to approve supplementary budget

The House of Representatives said on Thursday that it was ready to approve a supplementary budget if that would end the strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

The position of the House was made known by the Speaker, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal, after the House was briefed on efforts by its Committee on Education to end the strike.

The committee is chaired by Mr. Aminu Suleiman.
The Speaker appealed to the Federal Government and the striking lecturers to quickly reach an understanding and suspend the strike.

He observed that Nigeria would pay dearly for the lost academic time in the future if the strike was allowed to continue.
Tambuwal added, “Let me use this opportunity to appeal to both the Executive arm and the authorities of ASUU to please quickly resolve the problem. And if there is need for any appropriation, the House will expeditiously assent to it in the interest of our students and the nation.”
