Teachers and other workers in 104 Federal

declared Monday, March 3, a lecture-free day to mourn
the students of FGC,Muni Yadi, Yobe State who were
murdered by Boko Haram insurgents on Tuesday
25th February 2014.
In a statement yesterday by Association of Senior Civil

day of mourning is a way of showing solidarity with
the Management, Staff and Parents of the deceased
students.
“We believe that this gesture is the least honour that

LASU Dean of student urges students to embrace PEACE!!

Prof. Kabir Akinyemi, the Dean of Students Affairs , Lagos
State University (LASU) yesterday urged students of the
institution to shun violence and embrace peace.
Akinyemi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an
interview Lagos that dialogue remained the best way of
solving problems.
He said it was unfortunate that some outsiders took
advantage of the Jan. 23 students’ protest in the university
to carry out the level of destruction done to property in the
institution.
Akinyemi said that the level of damage was beyond what
LASU students could carry out and urged them to always
adopt dialogue in resolving issues to avoid a recurrence of
such infiltration.
The dean noted said that improved security would also help
in preventing a repeat of such an incident.
Akinyemi also warned the operators of the university shuttle
buses to limit their operations to the university and its
environs.
He said it was an offence for shuttle buses with the
university’s name to ply major roads of the city.
“The management has written to appropriate authorities
such as the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority,
among others, to arrest and sanction offenders, “ he said.
On the hike in fees, Akinyemi urged the students to continue
to dialogue with the state government for a downward
review as it was beyond the university management.
He also called on parents and other stakeholders to
collaborate with the school management in molding the
character of the students, to make them good ambassadors.
The dean warned that the university would not tolerate
indiscipline among the students and any of them found
wanting would be sanctioned.
Akinyemi assured the final year students that the
management would do everything possible to mobilize them
for the Batch B set of the National Youth Service Corps
scheme in July.

ASUP strike to be resolve.FG issues N40bn

FG Seeks End to ASUP Strike, Offers to Pay N40b
in Two Instalments.....thisday reports!

The Federal Government has appealed to the Chairmen of
Governing Councils of Federal Polytechnics in Nigeria to
prevail on the striking members of the Academic Staff Union
of Polytechnics to end their now five month strike which
has grounded activities in the polytechnic sector.
This is as it disclosed that it would pay the N40 billion
outstanding arrears of the migration to CONTISS 15 in two
instalments; an offer which the union already rejected.
According to a statement issued by the Senior Special
Assistant on Media to the Supervising Minister of
Education, Mr. Simeon Nwakaudu, the Supervising Minister
of Education, Chief Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, met with the
Chairmen in Abuja friday.
The offer, he said, also extends to striking lecturers of
Federal Colleges of Education in the country.
"At our exhaustive meeting with the Academic Staff Union
of Polytechnics, ASUP, we agreed on the two instalmental
payment of the CONTISS 15. We have since raised a memo
to the President to this effect. I took the risk of committing
government because we are deeply worried over the
prolonged strike.

Seriously, Nigeria education is messed up...who's gonna fix it if not us!

US says NIgeria is corrupt.....?? We all know that.

Nigeria has been classified as a corrupt country with a poor
governance record, while discrimination against women,
the less privileged, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender
(LGBT) people is common place.
This is coming on the heels of the disclosure by the
Director-General, Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Mr.
Emeka Ezeh that N95.79 billion was saved through the
implementation of due diligence in public contracting and
procurement in the fourth quarter of last year.
United States Secretary of State, John Kerry made the
corruption allegations on Thursday in his well- advertised
“Country Reports on Human Rights Practices” which he
presented at the Press Briefing Room of the State
Department in Washington.
Kerry warned that the US was not acting out of arrogance
but to plug the pitfalls arising from its experiment at home
and help the human race against making avoidable
mistakes.
“Even as we come together today to issue a report on other
nations, we hold ourselves to a high standard and we
expect accountability here at home too. And we know that
we’re not perfect. We don’t speak with any arrogance
whatsoever, but with a concern for the human condition,”
the Secretary of State said.
This year’s report, he stressed, “is especially timely coming
on the heels of one of the most momentous years in the
struggle for greater rights and freedoms in modern history.”

In my own opinion, this shouldn't come as a shock to any Nigerian out there. Putting the records straight, Nigeria is corrupt especially in governance.
