Nollywood at the mercy of pornography

When Nigerian movie industry otherwise known as Nollywood, kicked off about twenty years ago, themes of witchcraft, ritualism and greed that dominated some of the early movies.

Today, the practice has shifted and lovers of the country’s films are helplessly being compelled to watch obscene movies which promotes immorality and cultures that are alien to us as Africans.

Indeed, recent survey has shown that pornographic movies are increasingly taking over Nollywood. Ardent followers of the recent development in the industry would have noticed the disturbing increase in the degree of nudity portrayed in some of the recent Nollywood flicks.

Regrettably, Nollywood actors have thrown caution to the wind as they now venture into hard core pornographic roles. The internet, ‘YouTube’, is not helping matters as it is one avenue frenquently used by these desperate, and ‘materialistic’ soft-pron producers to gain wide popularity for such obscene movies.

One of the common scenes in today’s nollywood movies

Until recently, the production of soft-porn movies only thrives in Ghana. They were considered bold enough to engage in sexually suggestive roles. This, however, paved the way for the popularity of Ghollywood movies in the country, as Nigerians, out of curiosity, patronized Ghanaian films just to see how far they were willing to go with this obscenity. But today, the story has changed. Nollywood practitioners who have been very conservative when it comes to displaying sex and nudity on screen, are now leading the way with the production of pornographic movies.

Some of the soft-porn movies that have flooded the Nigerian and African markets in the past few years includes; “The Benjamins, Greedy Sex, Room 027, Another Game of Men, Bold 5 Babes, Bedroom Assassins , All My Ladies, My Pretty Angel, Take My Wife(Pretty Wild Things), Pool Party and I slept with My Bosses Wife.

Guardiola ready to make changes needed at Bayern

Pep Guardiola has highlighted the improvements still needed to be made in his Bayern Munich side after their 3-1 win over Borussia Moenchengladbach kicked off the new Bundesliga season.
Guardiola took charge of his first Bundesliga game as Bayern coach on Friday at Munich’s Allianz Arena and spent 71 of the 90 minutes barking instructions from the sidelines.
Goals by Dutch winger Arjen Robben, Croatia’s Mario Mandzukic and Austria’s David Alaba gave defending German champions Bayern three points at home on Friday night.
But the Spaniard then presented an extensive list of areas Bayern must improve — something of concern for the club’s senior figures, who have set high standards.
“We didn’t always press well, gave Gladbach too much time, our counter-attacks weren’t always well controlled and when we lost the ball, we didn’t always get back into position straight away,” said Guardiola.
Bayern leaked just 18 goals last season — a record low in the Bundesliga — but goalkeeper Manuel Neuer had a busy night against Gladbach.
“I had lots and lots to do,” admitted the Germany ‘keeper who is more used to quieter evenings when Bayern dominated last season.

Nollywood Sexiest: 19 standing, Kalu Ikeagwu, Anita Joseph drop

No stars dropped from the quest last weeks because of a popular demand which saw us profiling how each star stands, as regards the voting so far. But same cannot be said of this week with two more stars; a man and a woman dropping from the quest.
The two stars who are waving us farewell are Kalu Ikeagwu and Anita Joseph. Kalu had it long coming but Anita had it so good at the beginning but somewhere along the line she seemed to lose the steam to continue.
We now have 19 men and 19 women left to slug it out all the way. Really, the picture is still very much the same like last week except for some few changes.
ANITA-KALU
Yul Edochie still have the front row seat, like last week, like a man on a cruise control but the women category is a bit more intense. The most active person this week for the women is Yvonne Nelson, the Ghanaian screen goddess added some more cylinders to her throttles. She was quite out outstanding and if she continues at that rate, Tonto may just have to watch her back soon enough.
Another woman who came calling with serious intent at the crown is Stephanie Okereke. If Yvonne was outstanding she was no push-over either. She got more votes than any other week before now.
People to watch include Queeneth Hilbert, Rita Dominic, Jackie Appiah, Frank Artus, Benson Okonkwo and Mike Ezuruonye. Angela Okorie too has also found her way out of the Drop Zone, after putting up an impressive outing this week.
Yvonne Okoro, who aught to have dropped since is now an item to behold. She has not only moved out of the Drop Zone, she is also seriously running into the league of the top contenders.
These following stars have been rather lukewarm, blowing neither hot nor cold. They include Chita Agwu, Biodun Okeowo, Chita Agatha, Queen Nwokoye, and Maureen Cyril for the women. For the men, we have Pat Attah, Sunkanmi Omobolanle, O.C. Ukeje and Alex Ekubo, who moved from Drop Zone to Safe Zone a coule of weeks back.
Who goes down next week? Your guess is as good as mine. But you can be sure we will have evictions. The only question is who. Keep voting.

VANGUARD
