Photos From The Kenyan Mall Shootings where 50 were Killed,& More than 150 terribly Injured

Over 50 shoppers were killed, another more than 150 injured after gunmen stormed an upscale shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya yesterday in what could possibly be a terrorist attack.

The terrorists had stormed the Westgate Mall and sprayed shoppers with bullets.
Witnesses said the attackers told all Muslims to leave as they were only after non-Muslims.
Those shoppers who tried to leave were asked by the terrorists to name the Prophet Mohammed’s mother.
If they failed to give her correct name, which is Amina, they were shot dead.
After Muslim shoppers had left the mall, the terrorists reportedly threw grenades and fired AK-47s.

Renowned Ghanaian Author Killed In Kenya Massacre

One of Ghana’s foremost authors, Professor Kofi Awoonor, was among scores of people shot dead in Saturday’s attack at the Westgate Shopping Mall in Nairobi, Kenya.

One of Africa’s most extraordinary poets, Mr. Awoonor also served in several political roles in Ghana. Until recently, he was the chairman of Ghana’s Council of State, having being appointed by the late President John Atta-Mills and in 2009 was elected to chair that advisory body.

Mr. Awoonor’s death in the massacre has sent shock waves around the world, a source at the Ghana High Commission in Nairobi confirmed. A Somali Islamist militant group, Al Shabab, has claimed responsibility for the gruesome attack in which 59 people perished. Many more victims sustained various degrees of critical injuries.

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has vowed to hunt down the perpetrators of the attack.

Reports say Mr. Awoonor’s son who was with him at the mall also sustained injuries but is currently responding to treatment.
Further source at Legon told SaharaReporters that Mr. Awoonor’s death “has put Ghanaians in a big mourning mood. He was a very beloved man, an honorable writer who believed in lifting up all Ghanaians”.

At various times, Mr. Awoonor, who was inspired by his country’s most well known nationalist figure, Kwame Nkrumah, also served as Ghana’s ambassador to Cuba, Brazil. From 1990 to 1994, he served as Ghana’s ambassador and permanent representative at the United Nations in New York City, heading the world body’s committee against apartheid.

Mr. Awoonor was a gifted writer and passionate promoter of African literature through his critical scholarship. His book of criticism, The Breast of the Earth, is widely regarded as an important foundational text in the appreciation of the links between the oral tradition in Africa and the continent’s modern literary traditions.

Delta Govt. Shuts Down Model School

The Delta state government has closed down the Delta State Model School, citing lack of standard as the reason for the closure, a decision that led to a mild protest by parents and pupils of the school.

The Delta state Educational sector took the decision of the closure, as it has since taken a new dimension since the 2012 with several new model schools springing up across the state and old school being rehabilitated.

According to the state government State Model School was closed down because it has not met the particular standard for which it was built and that construction work is still on-going, while students attend classes under such condition.

Governor Uduaghan frowned at the protest by the pupils and charged them to avoid being incited by their parents and teachers to carry out protests, as he reassured them that the state government would relocate them to better schools whose facilities were completed rather than insisting on remaining in the uncompleted school.

Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan appealed to the parents and pupils of the school on the closure of the school that it was not in the best interest of children to be used for protests as this is not the right way to bring up a child.

Meanwhile the special adviser to the governor, Education Monitoring, Pastor Rhoda Ikede also emphasized the need for the closure, as the school was opened illegally without the governor’s knowledge.

5 Most Un-Usual And Weird Weapons Used In Wars

Desperate times call for desperate measures. It seems like in times of war, countries would go to the limits of trying just about anything as long as it gave them an advantage and a result no matter how absurd it sounded. Listed are the 5 most weird and unusual weapons developed and used in wars. These weapons were no doubt a source of surprise for the opponents then but now they have become a source of amusement for the generations to come. Innovative, unusual and very imaginative, here is our top 5 list.

Anti-tank dogs

Dogs. You read it right. Dogs were used by the Soviet Union during World War I against the German tanks. They were also known as dog-bombs or dog-mines. These dogs were kept without food for quite a few days and were trained to find food under the tanks. They were then fitted with explosives and set free in front of the German tanks. These hungry dogs reached under the tank in search of food and the detonator would go off damaging or destroying the military vehicle. According to the Soviet sources, these dog-bombs were able to damage and disable over 300 German tanks.

The Goliath Tracked Mine

It was a remote control anti tank mine that carried nearly 200 pounds of explosives and could be guided towards enemies’ troop and tank formation and was then detonated. German created and used them throughout the World War II. Among the allied forces, these were known as the ‘beetle tanks’.

Project Habakkuk

By the end of World War II metal was becoming extremely scarce. This project was designed to make a metal free air-craft carrier. Project Habakkuk was an ingenious idea proposed by Geoffrey Pyke. It suggested of hollowing an inside of an ice-berg and making the base with a mixture of wood-pulp and ice which they called ‘pykrete’.

Killer Dolphins

Military dolphins are used by both USA and Russia for locating under water mines and lost divers. There are rumors that these dolphins are specially trained to lay underwater mines, to kill enemy combatants, or to seek and destroy submarines using the kamikaze method. However, both the countries have always refused to ever have trained such dolphins that harm or injure humans, to carry weapons or to destroy ships.

Bat Bombs

Bats occur in abundance in America, especially in huge caves of Texas. Bats are capable of carrying weight greater than their own. Bats are birds of the dark and are secretive. All these facts combined and provided the Americans with a resourceful idea of using bats as bomb carriers. During the World War II, America developed small bombs that were to be attached to these bats in hope of attacking Japan. Industrial hubs of Japan were the main target. The bats could easily disperse widely and would hibernate in building during the day and a timer would set the bombs off resulting in havoc around the city and causing widespread fire.

MUST READ FOR LADIES:: 5 Worst Habits of Women

Of course not all women have these habits. Some have one of them, some have all, and some have none. Habits of women can’t be generalized, but there is a trend.

Nagging

Women like to nag, it’s a problem as old as humankind. Already ancient Greeks knew this habit of women, Hera was annoying Zeus with doing it too much, Socrates’ wife Xanthippe has become the quintessential nagging woman.

Maybe only men sense it as nagging and women have good reason to be like that. They want to be forceful after saying something again and again without success. What they don’t realize is that there’s a reason for having no success. Men simply need to be told things in a different way.

Being irrational

Ever tried to explain to a woman something in a reasonable and logical way, only to have her reply: ‘Yes but for me it’s different.’? It’s a typical way for a woman to be irrational and drive a man crazy. She simply doesn’t want to understand, she wants to tell how she sees the world or herself. Men would do better to accept that and give up trying to explain or disagree.

Being over emotional is another side of this habit. Instead of staying calm and thinking a situation over women react over emotional, break out in tears, get hysterical or angry and start throwing things. Best to wait until the attack is over and her brain starts working more rational again.

Buying too much

Spending too much on shoes, handbags and clothes is not only a bad habit, it can be an addiction for some women. Like all addictions, it can become an expensive problem.

Even when it’s not that bad most men can’t understand why someone needs 40 pairs of shoes, 20 handbags or a new outfit every two weeks. Most men also don’t enjoy spending a lot of time before changing rooms waiting for a woman who can’t decide if this or that skirt looks better, especially if they were asked and told more than once which one they prefer.

It would be better for relationships if women would only spend as much as they can afford easily and take their best girlfriend for shopping tours.

Bitchiness

Women often have troubles working in a team, especially with other women. It’s a kind of jealousy; they want to be the best, a queen, or even the only woman around. They can be that way with friends, as well. Wherever women meet there is potential for jealousy.

Best for men to stay out of it. If it’s their wife or girlfriend, they could try calming her down. As long a they never side with the other woman.Best for men to stay out of it or try to calm.

Gossiping

Women are more talkative than men. They talk longer and more often on the phone. They like to talk about a lot of things with their best girlfriend or with female family members. That’s a social skill and society needs it, but it becomes a bad habit easily when it’s all about gossip.

Women should settle for gossip about celebrities on TV or in magazines . Intimate details of their friends should be treated discreetly, their partners have a right to privacy.
