Delta Govt. Shuts Down Model School

The Delta state government has closed down the Delta State Model School, citing lack of standard as the reason for the closure, a decision that led to a mild protest by parents and pupils of the school.

The Delta state Educational sector took the decision of the closure, as it has since taken a new dimension since the 2012 with several new model schools springing up across the state and old school being rehabilitated.

According to the state government State Model School was closed down because it has not met the particular standard for which it was built and that construction work is still on-going, while students attend classes under such condition.

Governor Uduaghan frowned at the protest by the pupils and charged them to avoid being incited by their parents and teachers to carry out protests, as he reassured them that the state government would relocate them to better schools whose facilities were completed rather than insisting on remaining in the uncompleted school.

Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan appealed to the parents and pupils of the school on the closure of the school that it was not in the best interest of children to be used for protests as this is not the right way to bring up a child.

Meanwhile the special adviser to the governor, Education Monitoring, Pastor Rhoda Ikede also emphasized the need for the closure, as the school was opened illegally without the governor’s knowledge.
