Range Rover unveils most expensive model ever costing £140,000 - with first class airline style

The most expensive and luxurious Range Rover ever created by the British 4X4 firm is revealed today – with a right royal £140,000 price tag to match.

The target audience for the sumptuous off-roader is royalty – both the blue-blooded real and the ‘tinsel-town’ Hollywood variety - as well as ministers and senior politicians and top sporting stars.


After his birth, baby Prince George arrived back from hospital to Kensington Palace with Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge in a Range Rover – after his father skilfully strapped him into his child seat.

The new Range Rover, which will be available in a premium Autobiography Black version, will be delivered to UK customers in August 2014 and cost £140,000

The car will be the first Range Rover with a long wheel-base aimed at giving A-list passengers extra legroom while they are driven by their chauffeurs

The interior will feature leather and wood trims along with mood lighting and programmable settings for each seat
A Land Rover spokesman said: ‘This will be the most expensive and luxurious Range Rover ever.’

It is powered by a 5.0 litre supercharged V8 petrol engine which propels it from rest to 60mph in just 5.5 seconds to a top speed of 140mph.
The most luxurious Range Rover Autobiography Black makes its world debut at the Dubai International Motor Show on November 5 and will be available in long wheel-base form only in the UK.

Despite all the comfort and luxury, the new Range Rover is powered by a supercharged V8 engine and will do 0-60mph in 5.5 seconds

All seats come complete with massagers, the rear chairs can recline like First Class airline seats and there is also a champagne chiller

Meet the man who lives - and works - in an egg: Giant floating wooden pod is artist's studio and home

British artist Stephen Turner, 58, will live and work inside £40,000 40ft Exmoor Egg for a year
Structure took six months to build and features in George Clarke's Amazing Spaces on Channel 4
This giant floating egg on the River Beaulieu could well be Hampshire's quirkiest living space.

It may look like it comes straight from the set of a low-budget science fiction movie, but the giant wooden pod cost £40,000 to build and will in fact be the home and workspace of artist Stephen Turner, 58, for the next year.
The 40ft self-sustaining structure, which is registered as a boat, floats up and down with the tide and is designed to have minimal environmental impact. Stephen hopes to highlight climate change while living there.




Each half of the egg is made of two wooden skins with a membrane in between to make it watertight. It is wider at rear allowing room for two storage cupboards either side, and a very simple bathroom.

Tyre repairer kidnaps His son, demands N350,000 ransom

The State Security Service, Lagos State Command, has arrested a 48-year-old man, Samson Adebayo, for allegedly arranging the kidnap of his nine-year-old son, Emmanuel, and demanding a ransom of N350, 000.

According to the SSS, Adebayo had solicited the help of his girlfriend, Kehinde Alonge, to kidnap Emmanuel from his residence at 2, Solomon Street, Ilu-Nla, Aradagun, Badagry.

The director, SSS, Lagos State, Mr. Ben Achu-Olayi, said Adebayo reported the incident to security agents, pretending to be distraught.

He said, “On October 7, 2013, the command received a report from Adebayo Samson, who complained that his son was kidnapped on October 3.

“Consequently, the command swung into action with the aim of rescuing the victim and arresting the culprits. Preliminary investigations confirmed the kidnapping by Alonge, who had demanded a N350, 000 ransom.

“She demanded that the ransom be paid into a United Bank of Africa account 2050908899, belonging to one Taiwo Faloye. Unknown to the suspects, we had set up a flag on the account with the bank’s cooperation and were alerted when N230, 000 was remitted.”

NSA admits spying on 35 world leaders

The largest US spy agency has acknowledged that it intercepted private communications of some 35 world leaders.

Officials say an internal review revealed the existence of the international spying operation in the National Security Agency, the Wall Street Journal reports.

It is the first public acknowledgment of intercepting telephone communication of world leaders by the US Government.

European politicians have expressed outrage over revelations of US surveillance on German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s private mobile telephone and mining of data in France.

The Spanish government summoned the US ambassador on Monday to respond to allegations that the NSA intercepted more than 60 million calls in Spain.

The calls were intercepted in December and January, according to documents leaked by former NSA contractor, Edward Snowden, Guardian journalist Glenn Greenwald wrote in El Mundo newspaper.

Ghent University Master Grants for students from developing countries, Belgium

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Ghent University provides Master Grants to candidates from developing countries who wish to obtain a master’s degree at Ghent University. They are awarded for the duration of the studies with a maximum of 2 years. In case of a two-year-programme the scholarship will only be paid for the full term if the student successfully completes the first year of the programme. The scholarship consists of an insurance, an allowance of 1000 euro per month, an installation fee of 500€ and a refund of the yearly tuition fee with a maximum of 80€. Each year, a maximum of 10 scholarships can be awarded.
The master scholarships are awarded for the duration of the studies, aiming at the delivery of a Ghent University diploma after max. 2 years of study. The scholarship is paid for the total duration of the studies.

16 Year Old Nigerian American Girl Among World’s Smartest 50

Nigerian girl, Saheela Ibraheem, whose name has been buzzing in the headlines lately as a promising talent, has reserved a place among “The World’s 50 Smartest Teenagers” list.

The young girl, only 16, made it to headlines earlier this year when she was accepted into Harvard University, making her one of the youngest students ever to attend that school.
Making a record in the US, Saheela was accepted at 13 other colleges, including prestigious MIT, the University of Pennsylvania, Cornell, Brown, Princeton, Columbia, and the University of Chicago.

In the end,
Saheela chose Harvard, based on her seven-year-old brother’s advice who also dreams of being admitted to Harvard.
Saheela believes the key to success is knowing what you love to learn as early as possible, a knowledge she says she achieved at age five.
Known as polite and humble, the Muslim prodigy said that her Nigerian parents, totally supportive of the young scholar, sometimes taught her subjects the schools didn’t offer.

FUTO and Imo Poly team up to produce first ever African made electric car, Africar.

AFRICAR PROJECT

The Imo State Polytechnic Umuagwo, Imo Poly, and the Federal University of Technology Owerri, Futo, in collaboration with the Technical University of Munich, TUM, Germany, are working together to manufacture the first ever African made electric car, Africar.

The management of Imo Poly, Futo, and representatives from TUM disclosed this at a preliminary meeting held by the collaborating institutions at FUTO, on Tuesday, July 23,2013.

According to the planned program as disclosed by the leader of the two man team from TUM, Dr. Frank Diermeyer, the first part of the project will start in November when German students will visit Nigeria and start work with their Nigerian counterparts. They will that time familiarize themselves with the needs and situation in Nigeria to develop a concept for the vehicle that will fit the needs of the people.

This will last for two weeks before they return to Germany. Within that interval both parties will continue to communicate and share ideas on the project. Then in May 2014, they will do a presentation on it in Germany for two weeks before the Nigerian students will come over to Germany where they will start work on the prototype. This is the first phase called the Global Drive.

The second phase will commence when the first has been successfully completed. The vehicle, according to plans and expectations of the collaborating institutions, will be tailored to suit the Nigerian geo-physical and economic conditions.

JAMB 2014 REGISTRATION TO COMMENCE NOVEMBER

JAMB Prepares for 2014 UTME - Begins registration in November

As the 2013 admission processes for various institutions gradually rounds up, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board JAMB has begun preparations to kick off the 2014 UTME registration and subsequently the Exams.

This preparation is visible as the board uploads and shows off the brand new registration portal at http://www.jamb.org.ng/Unifiedtme/.

According to reports gathered from staff of the board, the academic brochures which guides students on courses offered in various institutions and their requirements are currently being distributed to JAMB offices nationwide.

The newly designed portal is expected to allow for easier registration especially for those who took the 2013 UTME and can still remember their JAMB registration number. Please note that registration for this exam can never be done using a mobile phone, neither are the candidates expected to register for the exam by themselves.

All candidates who are to sit for the 2014 exam are to visit only authorized business centres and cyber cafes to get registered even if they know how to do it by themselves at home. Please also ensure that the business centre you are going to register for your exam has the DIGITAL PERSONA Scanner for Biometric Finger Print Capture.

The 2014 UTME will feature 3 types of exam as you may have already known;
Computer Based Test - CBT
Paper and Pen Test - PPT
Dual Based Test - DBT

NB: THERE IS A PROBABILITY THAT 2014 EXAM WILL PURELY BE CBT 

As at the time of writing this report, no official date has been announced for the exam and there is also no exact date when registration will begin in November.

MUST READ!! How Much Does a Nigerian Legislator Earn? [you gotta hear this]

In a recent interview, a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Bimbo Daramola, claimed that United States of America (USA) legislators earn more than their Nigerian counterparts. If that is true, it is pertinent to point out that there is no basis for comparison. The USA is the richest country in the world while Nigeria is one of the poorest. In that interview, he also tried to justify the cost of running the legislative arm of government and argued that public perception of members of that arm of government as spendthrifts is not correct. The legislator went on to state that as a member of the House of Representatives, he earns N1,200,000, while his counterpart in the USA earns $186,000 per annum and has running costs of between $2.6 and $2.8 million within the same period.

The Senate and the Central Bank governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi are in a running battle, because Sanusi raised the alarm that the legislative body was and still is bleeding the country in the name of law-making. It was also once reported that it costs Nigeria about N250million annually to maintain each senator. This was not denied. One legislator actually argued that Nigerians should draw the line between the person and the office, in terms of expenditure computation.

In our opinion, even if that line is drawn, the cost of maintaining a legislator is obviously still on the high side, especially if one is to consider the assertion of former President Obasanjo while in office, that the budget for the fire service of the State of New York is higher than the entire Nigerian federal budget.

Going by that, we think it is irresponsible for the average Nigerian legislator to expect to earn as much as his US counterpart. The two countries are not equally endowed. To start with, the workload of a Nigerian legislator is nothing compared to that of a member of the US Congress. The duties, responsibilities and sphere of influence of the average American legislator are far more than what the Nigerian legislator could possibly imagine. It would be like comparing the duties of a Nigerian senator with those of a local government councillor, and that would be being charitable.

Above all, the USA Congress is open and transparent to the extent that the average American knows how much their legislators earn and even before they are elected, the legislators know how much they will earn.

In Nigeria, who determines the remuneration of members of the National Assembly? Who vets and audits it? In the Second Republic, the salaries and allowances of public officers, including those of legislators were a subject of debate on national television. The executive and judicial arms of government in the current dispensation submit their budgets to the legislative arm for approval. Who handles that of the legislature? Nigerians have a right to know. It should no longer be left to speculation.

BOY kills mum cox she seized his phone

Boy, 16, 'killed his mother with his friend's help' after she confiscated his cell phone

       A 16-year-old boy is facing first degree murder charges after his mom’s body was found at the family’s home in the early hours of Saturday.
The body of Tina Helms Spencer, 36, was found murdered in the backyard shed at the property in Mesa, Arizona.
Her son, Mike Helms, has been booked into juvenile detention on charges including first-degree murder, aggravated assault and tampering with evidence.

After his mom returned home from work, they allegedly had a heated argument over the phone and he decided to kill her.
Cops were alerted after receiving a phone call from the son’s stepfather. He also had been attacked by the boy after returning home from work but had managed to escape after a short struggle.

KEY POINT OF THIS STORY:

• The body of Tina Helms Spencer, 36, was found at her home in Mesa, Arizona, on Saturday morning
• Son Mike Helms, 16, has been booked into juvenile detention on charges including first-degree murder and tampering with evidence
• Police say the boy and his mom had a heated argument after he had his cell phone taken from him 
• A hearing will be held to determine if the boy and his 17-year-old accomplice should be charged as adults
