Android KitKat: Version 4.4 gets official with a tasty new name

Yep, you read that right: Android 4.4 is coming, but it’s not Key Lime Pie, as was widely expected. It’s Android KitKat. That’s right. Google’s partnered up with chocolate giant Nestle to name the next version of its hit mobile OS after the famed four-fingered chocolate treat, and there’s even a Willy Wonka-style competition which could see you win either a Nexus 7 or Google Play credit. Fancy a KitKat?

Say goodbye to Android Jelly Bean, farewell to Key Lime Pie and as Google confirms over one billion Android activations worldwide, the company’s announced that KitKat is the name of the next big release of its mobile OS. Aside from the name, no other details have been announced regarding the next version of Android, although to mark the release, more than 50 million branded bars will be headed over to 19 different countries including the UK and the US, which will give you the chance to win Google’s latest Nexus 7 tablet or credit to spend in the Google Play store.
