DRAMA AS POLICE SEALS OFF NEW PDP SECRETARIAT IN RIVERS (photos)

The crisis rocking the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) took a dramatic twist yesterday when police sealed off the secretariat of the new PDP.

Trouble started shortly after the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Tony Okocha, informed journalists that the new party secretariat was opened in line with the directives of the new party chairman that the states chapter of the party should open their respective states secretariats.
Less than ten minutes after the new party flag was hoisted, a contingent of the policemen led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations Sam Ogoala stormed the new secretariat located at Forces avenue G.R.A Port Harcourt and directed that the flags should be dismantled.
There was verbal exchange between the Chief of Staff to the Governor and the Deputy Commissioner of Police.
The Chief of Staff to the Governor had questioned the authority of the police to dismantle the party flags. The Deputy Commissioner of Police ignored the pleas by the Chief of Staff not to dismantle the flag. The police boss personally pulled down the four poles hoisting both the Nigeria flag and that of the party.
Journalists who were invited to witness the inauguration of the new party secretariat were harassed and hounded by fierce looking police men. A photographer with Sun newspaper was manhandled while his camera was destroyed by the police.
DCP Sam Ogoala told journalists that the opening of the new secretariat was illegal.
