Federal government constitutes committee for recruitment into NIS, others

Federal Government on Wednesday, constituted a Presidential Committee to re-conduct the aborted recruitment into the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).

The presidency also mandated the committee to also assist the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC), Fire Service and other para-military agencies in future recruitment exercises.

It would be recalled that authorities at the Minister of Interior, Presided over by the Minister, Abba Moro, had allegedly conducted recruitment into the Nigeria Immigration Service, recently, but the exercise resulted in tragedy as a result of stampede which also claimed the lives of some of the applicants.

In a statement by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, in Abuja, those appointed into the committee include Federal Civil Service Commission as Chairman.

Other members of the committee are Comptroller-General, Nigeria Immigration Service, a representative of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, representative of the Commandant-General NSCDC, representative of the Comptroller, Prison Service, representative of the Corp Marshal Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), a representative of the Director-General, Department of State Securities(DSS) while Permanent Secretary, Special Duties (OSGF) would serve as secretary.

Part of the terms of reference for the Committee would be to liaise with the Civil Defence, Fire Service, Immigration and Prisons Board and confirm the actual number of personnel to be recruited.

The Committee would also assist the Civil Defence, Fire Service, Immigration and Prisons Board by re-advertising the recruitment into the NIS with a view to starting the recruitment process afresh.

They would also assist the Civil Defence, Fire Service, Immigration and Prisons Board by processing the applications, short listing potential candidates and conducting the necessary interviews for the purpose of the recruitment exercise;

Including assisting the Civil Defence, Fire Service, Immigration and Prisons Board by following all relevant laws, public service rules and guidelines, to determine successful applicants and announce their appointment into the NIS.
