ASUU STRIKE: MARK CALLS ON LECTURERS, FG TO RE-THINK

President of the Nigerian Senate, David Mark, has called on striking university lecturers to have a re-think as according to him, “the morass in the education sector is retarding the educational progress of millions of our children.”

Mark in his welcome message to the Senate after a six-week break said the case put forward by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) though justified, the university teachers should return to class, while pragmatic negotiations to address their grievances continue.

“I urge you all to spare a thought for the plight of our youths who are idling away because of the closure of our universities due to the ASUU strike. The morass in the education sector is deeply troubling not only because it is retarding the educational progress of millions of our children, but also because it arrests the intellectual development of our nation, with grave consequences for the future.”
