Christmas eve tragedy: 3 die, 18 injured in auto crash

Tragedy struck, yesterday, at Obada – Oko in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun Sstate when three persons lost their lives while 18 others including seven children were critically injured in a lone accident.

The accident, which involved a Toyota Hiace passenger bus with registration number, LAGOS FKJ 07 AS, occurred late Monday evening on Lagos – Abeokuta expressway.

Vanguard gathered that occupants of the Toyota bus were members of the Celestial Church, who were going for their annual prayer congress at Celestial town of Imeko in Imeko/Afon Local Government Area of the state.

The Itori Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Fatai Bakare, who confirmed the accident, said 21 persons which included four males, 10 females and seven children were on board as at the time the accident occurred.

Bakare said that those that were critically injured included seven children, seven women as well as all the four male occupants of the bus.

Commenting on the cause of the accident, the Unit Commander explained that the driver over-sped and when the tyre of the vehicle burst, he could not control it and the vehicle sommersaulted, resulting in the death of the occupants.

Bakare also said that the injured victims had been taken to the Federal Medical Center, Idi – Aba, Abeokuta for medical treatments, while corpses of those that died have also been deposited at the same hospital.
