ASUU UPDATE- ASUU President Dies on his way to voting as 28 ASUU chapters ended voting today!!

A former President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Prof. Festus Iyayi, died on Tuesday in a car crash on Lokoja-Abuja Expressway.

Iyayi was heading for ASUU's NEC  meeting scheduled for tomorow in kano state when the accident occurred.

He was in company with some ASUU leaders and they were said to be heading for Kano where they sought the views of members on ending the four-month-old ASUU strike.

Now there are 28 ASUU chapters in Nigeria and voting ended today. These are the full voting results;

**FOR SUSPENSION OF STRIKE

  1. Ahmadu Bello university, Zaria
  2. federal university of technology, minna
  3. university of lagos
  4. university of ibadan
  5. university of calabar
  6. university of port harcourt
  7. federal university of technology, akure
  8. usman dan fodio university, sokoto
  9. ekiti state university
  10. federal university of technology, owerri
  11. delta state university, abraka
  12. bayero university, kano
  13. imo state university
  14. federal university of agriculture, abeokuta
  15. olabisi onabanjo university
  16. university of abuja among others.....
20 universitiesy of the 28 universities making the chapters of ASUU voted for the suspension of the strike. The remaining 8 chapters votes for the continuation of the strike. These include;
  1. university of benin
  2. university of jos
  3. nasarawa state university 
  4. And the 5 chapters of bauchi-zone
The voting is based on the majority votes collated from all the chapters. The official result and announcement will be announce tommorow at the ASUU's National Executive Committee meeting in kano state.

Meanwhile, UNIABUJA gave their conditions for the suspension of the strike which are;

  1. payment of their three months 'NO WORK, NO PAY' salary
  2. no victimisation of any lecturer which took part in the strike
  3. strong commitment on the part of the government
  4. FG should release a time table for the sharing of the earned allowances within two weeks!
