ABU donates N19m knife-free surgery machine to hospital
The Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria at the weekend handed over a laser machine procured at the cost of $120,000 (N19m) to the university’s teaching hospital.
Presenting the equipment to the Governing Board of the ABUTH, the chairman of the ABU’s Governing Council, Alhaji Mohammed Dewu said the equipment is the first of its kind to be owned by any public hospital
in Nigeria.
“The machine is highly sophisticated and will be used for the operation of prostate cancer without the use of knife and with less blood loss. It is very efficient. It improves the health of the patients and gives fastest recovery.
This is the first to be owned by a public hospital in Nigeria. We are doing this to improve the healthcare delivery services in ABUTH,” Dewu said.
In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor, Professsor Abdullahi Mustapha urged the management of the hospital to make judicious use of the machine, promising to work with the Chief Medical Director of the ABUTH to achieve the objectives that the machine is meant for.
The Chief Medical Director, Professor Lawal Khalid, on his part, assured that the hospital would make good use of the machine for the benefit of Nigerians.
