YAWA DON GAS: impersonation at FUNAAB post-UTME exam
Authorities at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, FUNAAB, has arrested six people for impersonation at the ongoing post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME being conducted by the institution.
Those arrested were discovered by security men and senior officers of the university who were deployed to monitor and supervise the examination as members of the Academic Staff Union of University, ASUU, were still on strike.
Chief Security Officer of the institution, Peter Sunday Bolarinwa, who confirmed the arrest, said the suspects were caught during the process of accreditation for the examination.
He, however, added that they had been handed over to the State Security Service, SSS, for further actions and possible prosecution.
“I can confirm to you that so far, since we started yesterday, we have arrested six candidates who have also been handed over to the SSS operatives for necessary action.”
He added: “Our university exam is not the one that someone can write for another.
We maintain strict security checks which often time reveal impersonators among those willing to join us as students.
That’s why we shall continue to be the best among the rest.” In a related development, some of the candidates, who dressed provocatively, had a hectic time before they could be allowed to write the examination while several others were sent home for other examination malpractices.
FUNAAB’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olusola Oyewole, while speaking with journalists said the university’s security network would always give out criminally-minded candidates.
“For us as a university, there is no short cut to admission; you either read well and meet the cut-off point or attempt to indulge in examination practices and be arrested by our dutiful and reliable security network,” he stated.
