PILOTS DEMAND RELEASE OF REPORT ON STOWAWAY
The National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE) has demanded that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) made public findings from the investigation of 13-year-old Daniel Oikhena who stowed away recently.
On Saturday, August 24, 2013 a teenager beat security at the Benin Airport, and stowed away in the wheel well of an Arik aircraft from Benin to Lagos. The boy, unhurt, was arrested and handed over to State Security Services (SSS) for investigation. The NCAA also ordered an investigation into the matter.
In a statement signed by NAAPE spokesperson, Bunmi Gindeh, NAAPE said the breach in FAAN security raises serious concern on integrity of the security of the airports thus the findings should be made public.
The statement said: “The implications include questions on the adequacy or otherwise of the security infrastructure and apparatus, the availability or otherwise of capable human capacity, and the general level of management of the airports in Nigeria.
