N11.3B JOS STADIUM TO BE COMPLETED 2014

The Plateau Government has said the delay in the completion of the Jos International Stadium was as a result of variations and upward review of the contract sum from N3.5 billion to N11.3 billion to give it the status of an international stadium.

The state Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Solomon Maren who made this known in Jos, however assured that the stadium will be completed before December 2014. Maren explained that upgrading the stadium became necessary to make room for more facilities such as tennis, volleyball, basketball and squash courts as well as a swimming pool.
According to him “If not for the variations and upward review of the contract to N11.3 billion and other challenges at the site, the project would have been completed. Just last year the state government decided to change the model of the roofing to cover the entire stadium other than just the VIP side.”
Maren added that “this step, which is to give the status of an international stadium, necessitated the upward review of the project from N3.5 billion to N11.3 billion.”
