Mother's horror as her five-month-old baby dies after she left him on conveyor belt at Spanish airport and he got trapped in the mechanism

Police sources said the boy's American mother had placed him down on the stationary carousel at Alicante-Elche Airport (pictured) on Wednesday evening and turned away for a moment. While she was distracted, the belt was switched on and the child was carried to the portal where luggage emerges and became entangled. He was badly injured and paramedics were unable to save him. The woman had been travelling with her baby and an older child. Her Canadian husband was due to collect them from the airport.
