Group Drags ASUU to Court
Poverty Alleviation Advocacy and Justice Initiative (PAAJI) a Civil Society Organisation has dragged the Academic Staff Union of universities (ASSU) before the National Industrial Court over what its describe as illegal and arbitrary strike action.
PAAJI an originating summons filed on the 16th September, is seeking the court to determine whether or not in pursuant to section 254C-(1) (j) and (v) the university lecturers can declare a strike over purported breach of a memorandum of agreement by the federal government. The group in is also seeking the court to award exemplary and special damages against the ASUU for violation and frustration of students’ constitutional right to be educated. ASUU chairman, Mr. Nasir Fagge Isa, and all chapter chairmen of the union were named as defendants in the suit.
