A known sex offender is targeting north coast school girls through Facebook

A police investigation revealed a 23 year old New Zealand man used Facebook to contact more than 300 north coast girls.

The man used fake photos to lure the girls, requesting their photos and arranging meetings.

Inspector Darren Steele from the Tweed Byron command said the man has now left the region.

"He was holidaying here in Australia at the time that he set the account up, he's since returned to New Zealand." he said.

"We've liaised with the New Zealand child protection unit and Australian Federal Police to ascertain whether there has actually been any offences committed in Australia."
Police are urging teenage girls to come forward if they've had social media contact with a man wanted for sex offences.
