Baby rescued after being dumped in cemetery

Cape Town - A Nigerian newborn baby has been discovered and rescued after it was dumped by its mother in a cemetery in Kazaure, a report said on Monday.

According to Nigeria’s Daily Post, Muhammad Gidado, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps commandant in the state yesterday said the baby's mother was nabbed on Friday at Ilallah quarters in Kazaure town.

The woman, who was a maid in the area, was arrested following a tip-off by divorcees, widows, housemaids and prostitutes residing in the area.

"We were able to identify and arrest the mother of the baby girl that was abandoned at the graveyard after conducting a thorough investigation among divorcees, widows, housemaids and prostitutes living in the area," Gidado said.

Gidado said a medical examination at the General Hospital, Hadejia had revealed that the suspect was the biological mother of the abandoned baby.

"She also confessed to being the mother, as well as dumping the baby", he said.
