How to Fix a Broken iPhone Home Button

1. Calibrate Your iPhone Home Button

If your iPhone home button is slow to respond, it may need to be recalibrated. To do so, follow these steps:

Open any app

Hold your sleep/wake button until the Power Off screen appears

Hold down your home button for 5-10 seconds

Is it fixed? Great. If not, continue to the next slide.

2. Realign Your iPhone Home Button

If you're on this slide, it means that it's not a software glitch. You may need to realign the actual 30-pin connector. To do so, follow these steps:

Plug in your iPhone charger

Lightly push the charger against the backside of the home button

Press the home button

If that doesn't do the trick, continue to the next slide.

3. Clean Your iPhone Home Button

If the two previous steps didn't work, there may be dirt or some kind of sticky substance obstructing your home button. Follow these steps to clean it:

Use 99.9% isopropyl alcohol. DO NOT USE RUBBING ALCOHOL, which has water in it and can ruin your phone.

Apply a few drops in and around the home button

Lightly tap it, and wait about 10 minutes before checking it again

Is it fixed? Rejoice! If not, continue to the next slide.

4a. Set Up Your On-Screen Home Button: Step 1

If the previous solutions didn't fix your iPhone home button, you'll have to enable the on-screen accessibility button.

Open your settings and select the General tab.

4b. Set Up Your On-Screen Home Button: Step 2

Next, scroll down until you see the Accessibility tab near the bottom of the screen.

4c. Set Up Your On-Screen Home Button: Step 3

Finally, select the AssistiveTouch option and turn it on. This will create a small circle on your screen that lets you select the "Home" option right from your screen. To activate Siri (usually by holding down the home button), you can select the Siri option from your on-screen home button.

To take a screenshot, you can click Device > More > Screenshot. The on-screen button won't show up in the screenshot.
