Nigeria: Civil Society Groups Fix August 13 for Nationwide Protest to Support ASUU, Others

Civil society groups and stakeholders in Nigeria's education sector have scheduled August 13 for a nationwide protest in solidarity with the striking university lecturers as well as to salvage public education.
The university lecturers, members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, have been on strike for four weeks. They are scheduled to hold a meeting with top government officials on Monday.
The civic groups resolved to kick off rallies across Nigeria after a meeting in Lagos on Sunday, and will proceed with the protest whether or not ASUU calls off its strike.
